Mona Group have a long and respected involvement with the nuclear industry. From our base in North Wales we have been involved in a number of projects at various Magnox owned nuclear plants; and have undertaken work across the United Kingdom and Europe for a wide range of clients including nuclear research facilities.

Our focus is on providing manufactured solutions to complex lifting and materials handling requirements in nuclear facilities, particularly for the decommissioning of nuclear power plants.

Typical installations include:

• Cranes for specific nuclear decommissioning requirements; COTS, MOTS and bespoke
• Waste storage containers and handling systems; for hazardous, contaminated and radiologically controlled zones
• Lifting beams and frames for lifting and loading of low level (LLW) and intermediate level (ILW) nuclear waste
• Trolleys, mixers and equipment for the handling and loading of various grades of nuclear waste for movement between cells
• Shield plates and bespoke fabrication
• CCTV and PLC control systems for remote handling and control

An end-to-end service for the nuclear industry

Mona Group work directly with power plant operators as well as providing expert consultancy and manufacturing to principal contractors and other stakeholders engaged in nuclear decommissioning projects.

We provide an end-to-end service; from initial project scoping and risk assessments, to in-house 3D CAD design and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), to the manufacture, Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), transport, installation and commissioning of bespoke lifting and handling solutions.

The nuclear industry is amongst the most strictly controlled in the world, and Mona Group have the experience and expertise to meet these strict quality and safety standards and quality grades.

From our in-house design team to our fabrication and commissioning and certification processes; our entire service is focussed on quality, traceability and accountability.

Our internal management processes are accredited to ISO 9001 Certification for Quality Management, ISO 45001 Certification for Health and Safety, and ISO 14001 Certification for Environmental Management to minimise and maintain our environmental impact.

Our factory production control system for manufacturing and welding structural steel components is accredited to BS EN 1090 Execution Class 3 and BS EN 3834-3. Our welding procedures conform to BS EN 15614 and our coded welders are qualified to BS EN 9606.

We work to LTQR (Lifetime Quality Record) standards for full traceability from conception to installation; with non-destructive testing and welding inspection undertaken as required. Our installations are typically manufactured to Quality Grades 2 to 4.

Our engineering services are backed by £2m contractor’s all risk and professional indemnity insurance. For site work, all our site employees hold a CCNSG safety passport or equivalent; are security vetted and triple bar inducted for existing sites, and are trained in confined space operations, working at height and hold various plant operator licenses.

Our service does not stop with commissioning; we are available to provide a full onsite inspection, testing, maintenance and repair service as required.
