Experience
Mona Group are a multi-discipline engineering company offering a broad range of specialist services for a range of industry sectors.
Mona were successful in bidding for the design, manufacture and installation of a bespoke 105 tonne lifting tool for CERN, the European Nuclear Research facility in Geneva.
This complex piece of equipment is used for the handling of the New Small Wheel structure of the ATLAS research experiment designed to search for evidence of advanced theories of particle physics.
Twenty counterweights each weighing approximately 260kg are positioned on the horizontal beam of the tool to ensure a balanced lift, whilst the central pin which interfaces with the ATLAS wheel was machined to tight geometric tolerances and positioned using specialist laser tracking equipment.
Mona were delighted to be awarded this contract and proud to be involved with such a high profile organisation and project.
