Mona Group has a long standing and highly respected reputation for our work in the renewables sector. From wind, to hydro-electric, pumped storage and tidal power generation; our engineering, fabrication and lifting services are utilised by companies and organisations generating renewable power nationwide.

Mona Group provide an end-to-end service, from initial design concepts through to fabrication, installation and ongoing maintenance and inspection.

From our earliest beginnings we were involved in the manufacture of towers for wind turbines, and whilst this is still a growth area for us, our portfolio of services to the renewables sector has expanded to include:

Wind power:

• Design, fabrication and installation of wind turbine towers
• Inspection of the holding down bolts for turbine towers and testing of lifting beams within the towers
• Ongoing inspection and weld inspection

Hydro-electric (hydro and pumped-storage):

• Construction of pipelines
• Fabrication and overhaul of valve gear
• Maintenance, repair, blasting and coating of pipelines including ceramic based coatings
• Maintenance and repairs of turbines
• For smaller and community-based hydro-plants; steel-frame buildings, construction of pipelines, construction of recovery and maintenance equipment as well as mobile cranes via our cranes division

Tidal power:

• Design and construction of steel frameworks for marine turbines

Biomass:

• Design, fabrication and installation of buildings and heating flow and return pipework for Biomass plants
• Design, fabrication and installation of pressure vessels and piping for bio-digesters

Our in-house expertise, and our proven ability to find practical and affordable solutions to difficult engineering problems has allowed us to become involved in a number of innovative trial projects, particularly within the tidal power sector.  We are experienced in working as main contractor, as well as alongside specialist external consultants and engineers.

Mindful of the harsh environments that offshore wind turbine towers and tidal power generation equipment endure we are currently up-skilling two of our departments in order to provide CWISP weld inspection and coating inspections to ICORR standards.

For site work, all our site employees hold a Health and Safety Training Passport or equivalent; are trained in confined space operations, working at height and hold various plant operator licenses. Management members are IOSH / SSSTS / SMSTS trained in managing/working safely or have NEBOSH Health and Safety qualifications.
