Experience
Mona Group are a multi-discipline engineering company offering a broad range of specialist services for a range of industry sectors.
Mona Lifting designed, developed, manufactured, and commissioned a Launch and Recovery System (LARS) Catcher as part of the DG500 ‘Deep Green’ project.
The project includes a tidal kite which ‘flies’ underwater at speeds up to 20 knots across the tidal stream to generate green energy. An umbilical tether, fixed to a seafloor foundation, is held on board a service vessel by the Catcher to facilitate the interface disconnection for the tidal kite. A complex sliding subframe design was developed and manufactured to allow fine adjustment for a clamping device that secured the tether connection to enable connection and disconnection. The component was manufactured from carbon steel with machined parts from stainless steel. Coating was marine grade using Interzone 954 applied in house.
The project was completed for Minesto in 2018 and you can read more about the Holyhead Deep project on the Minesto web site.
