Mona Lifting have undertaken a maintenance contract for Magnox to repair areas inside the Low-Pressure Pipeline for the 30-megawatt Maentwrog Hydroelectric Power Station.
This 9.5 ft (2.9m) nominal diameter pipeline carries water from Trawsfynydd lake to the power station, where it drives two turbines, in turn generating enough electricity to power around 12,000 local homes each year.
Mona Lifting prepared and welded repair plates to the internal pipeline structure, to procedures accredited to BSEN15614 and welding operatives qualified to BSEN9606. We also provided NDT to 100% of the new welds.
All personnel were confined space operation qualified, and working to a strictly monitored method and approximately 100m of pipeline was repaired in this campaign.
Mona Lifting set up a Local Exhaust Ventilation (LEV) system within the work area that minimised fume exposure to all operatives that entered the pipeline.
