Mona Lifting has continued its ongoing collaboration with CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, by supplying specialist lifting equipment for a key stage of the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (HL-LHC) upgrade.
In August, our team travelled to CERN’s SM18 facility in Geneva to support the assembly and installation of a lifting frame designed and manufactured by Mona Lifting. The frame was factory acceptance tested before delivery and was used to assist in the installation of the first HL-LHC Cold Powering System for the Inner Triplet (IT) String.
The Cold Powering System includes a Superconducting Link, made from magnesium-diboride (MgB₂) cables, housed in a 22 cm-diameter cryostat. This system was successfully cold tested at up to 94 kA and will be connected to the superconducting magnets of the IT String later in the project.
Mona Lifting also provided other bespoke equipment for CERN, including manual gantry cranes and 1t and 2t cranes with custom control systems. All equipment was designed and built to meet CERN’s strict technical and safety standards.
Our involvement in this project highlights Mona Lifting’s capability in delivering reliable, high-spec lifting solutions for technically complex environments.
