Mona Lifting designed, developed and installed a handling system to carry 18m wing spars through a complex chemical process of tank immersion at the Magellan Aerospace wing spar treatment plant.
The installation comprises of one 10 tonne loading-in crane, one 10 tonne transporter crane with automatic operation and load guidance masts, and one 10 tonne load-out crane. In addition, specific lifting beams with support stands and electric current busbars were designed and manufactured for slinging the wing spars and supporting the component in the chemical tanks.
Work was carried out over a period of 12 months, and installation work was particularly challenging due to limited working areas and heavy lifting requirements.
